What to do in Casa Náutica

Kitesurf and Surf everyday...

What to do: Amenities

The area has high wind consistency and world-class waves with overlapping wind and surf seasons. There is summer-like weather all year round and the water temperature ranges from 16° to 20° Celsius. That means you can surf with a 3/2mm with southern swells and with just a lycra with northern swells.

Wind season: more consistent between April and December but still blowing off-season with less frequency

Surf season: all year round. Northern swells from December to February. Southern swells the rest of the year.

Kitesurf

Free-riding, free-styling, wave-riding, foiling and wing-surfing

You can kitesurf literally in front of the house (kite-in, kite-out) with the right wind direction. There is another spot right around the corner, reachable by foot. There are plenty of other spots for all levels around the area, which you can reach by car. The windy season goes from April to December, however you can also kitesurf off-season but less often. Usually the wind starts blowing around noon, with speeds ranging between 13 and 22kn on average, and dies off around 5 pm. Most of the spots are side-on with a few side-off for more experienced riders. You can get an idea using WindGuru but the readings are not accurate and the wind actually blows between 2 and 4kn stronger.

Spots (from south to north):

  • Lobitos

  • Tres Cruces

  • Cabo Blanquillo

  • El Ñuro

  • Los Organos

  • Vichayito

  • Máncora

Home to the best waves in Peru

Surf

From fun beginner and intermediate waves to hollow and demanding advanced ones. The North of Peru has it all. There are different spots that work with different swells so you can surf all year round. In the summer we get north swells and the rest of the year we get south and south west ones. When we see that Pipeline in Hawaii gets a big swell we get excited because after 6 days many spots will be on fire down here. You can surf right in front of the house with few to no people. You can also drive to plenty of other spots around the area.

Spots (from south to north):

  • Lobitos: 1 hour drive from the house. Level: intermediate - advanced. Best from June to October. There are +5 different breaks along more than 2 km of beach. Lobitos is a surf town with a ghost town vibe.

  • Cabo Blanco: 15 min drive. Level: advanced only. There are 2 waves here that can get very crowded with locals and pros. One is Panic Point,  a powerful and hollow long wave that can get up to 4 meters high. Best from June to October. The other one, Cabo Blanco, is probably the most famous wave of Peru. It is a perfect hollow wave that breaks in front of a reef very close from the shore. When there is a big swell, it is virtually impossible to surf here if you're not a local. The crowd gets quite hierarchical with up to 60 people. It breaks from November to February and when it does it's a show you shouldn't miss, even if it's just to watch surfers riding crazy barrels.

  • El Ñuro (Punta Farallón): our home. Level: beginner - intermediate depending of the conditions (tide, swell, season). Best from May to November but surfable all year round. Uncrowded most of the times.

  • Los Órganos: 15 min drive. Level: beginner - advanced. There are 2 surf breaks. Punta Veleros is a fun point break that works best in the winter and can be good for beginners. Los Órganos (a.k.a "La Vuelta") is a reef break with a barrel section that works in the summer and is only recommended for advanced or experienced surfers.

  • Máncora: 30 min drive. Level: beginner - intermediate. Máncora is the most popular wave in the area so it's usually crowded and has surf schools. When there is a good swell you can surf long overhead rippable waves here.

What else to do

There is much more than just kiting & surfing...if you want

The area offers plenty of other activities for you and your non-kiter/surfer companions.

Diving

Scuba dive between the piles on an abandoned oil rig

If you are into scuba diving or want to learn we can connect you with our friends from Spondylus for an unforgettable diving session in unique locations, like an abandoned oil rig just off the coast of "Los Órganos" beach. Our ocean is rich in wildlife, you might spot sea lions, turtles, all sort of fishes and hear whales singing. You can always borrow our snorkel to explore in front of the house.
